Other than price, is there really a huge difference when it comes to musical equiptment? Epiphone or Gibson? Fender or Squire? The list goes on... Is an artists talent or success measured in part by what they use for equiptment? If in fact it's, "the player and not the instrument", then why don't we see more mainstream artists using the cheaper name brands?
Because mainstream artists can afford to buy pretty equipment that's nice and shiny and that serves as representations of their success and their musical persona. Plus, they probably get some freebies for endorsing stuff. There is a difference between equipment, and it entirely depends upon what sound you want or image you're trying to project. Certain equipment is associated with certain sounds/images. You wouldn't necessarily see a folkie strumming a flying V, unless it was purposefully ironic.
That my friend, is a Dean. A very cool acoustic guitar, but I'm quite sure it's not in the same catagory as a Gibson, Taylor, or Martin. Here's a link to it at Musicians Friend: Dean V-Coustic. Can you believe the price? $200? How can they be making any profit on these let alone build them for that price? Which brings me back to the original topic. Is there really that much of a quality difference, or is it purely 'status quo'?
This changes the subject a little as i am not a guitarist..... i feel that an inventive musician can use a very cheap instrument and get just as good of a sound as an expensive one, that is my bottom line. As for me, i am an Electronic Synthesizer-based musician since way back in 1981. Many companies make synths now, but my all time favorite company has to be Roland! I have some Analog synths and some digital synths by them, too many to list right now, i have been collecting them since the early 80's My favorite would be my beloved Roland Juno-60, and i also love my TR-808 drum machine! I also own synths by Korg i love my Triton Workstation and Korg R-3 and new Kaossilator! I also have a few from Yamaha.... the MO-6 is great for very precise programming, and has great drum samples in it that sound better than my real drum kit!
